An official from the Indonesian health ministry told reporters on Wednesday that almost 100 children in the country have died from acute kidney injury (AKI) this year. The health ministry spokesman Mohammad Syahril, in a statement to Reuters, said that officials had identified 206 cases of the disease up to October 18. Of these, 99 cases had been fatal.
Gambia’s government is investigating a rising number of deaths caused by severe AKI that have been linked to paracetamol syrups used to treat high fevers. These syrups contained excessive amounts of diethylene glycol and ethylene glycol. These syrups are used to treat fever in the country.
